BOREL SETS --- PART I
SALA 3.10 - IST

BRUNO LOFF (IST & CMAF)

Abstract:

We will cover the second chapter of Mansfield and Weitkamp's "Recursive Aspects of Descriptive Set Theory." We will study the Borel Sets, which is the smallest class of subsets of Baire space containing the closed sets and closed under complementation and countable unions. We will provide an upper bound for the arithmetical complexity of the Borel Sets, and show that the continuum hypothesis is true for this class, i.e., that any uncountable Borel set must have cardinality 2^{\aleph_0}.
